Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis
PrEP is a medication taken before a person is exposed to HIV and does not work for people already infected. Patient's should ask their healthcare providers if PrEP is right for them. Generally, PrEP is used in patients that:
Have sex with a partner with HIV
Have sex with multiple partners with unknown HIV status
Have sex with partners with inconsistent condom use
Have a bacterial STI (sexually transmitted infection) in the last 6 months
Have used injection drugs or shared needles
